Wood Slabs

CIWW's monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 will feature Daniel Althoff doing a presentation on Wood Slabs.  Dan is the owner of Simply Slabs located in Pittsboro, Indiana so his experience will be very helpful for those who want to make something out of a slab.

Dan will talk us through the process of tree harvesting, sawing, kiln drying, flattening, filling cracks, surface preparation and finishing a slab, whether it is a table top, end table, or bar top. He will also highlight various table support methods, from a trestle design or a variation "X" shaped supports.  Dan also has a Wood Mizer and will be able to answer questions about this familiar portable sawmill.  


Invite a friend and join us on Wednesday, May 21st.  Doors open at 6:00 PM where a light meal will be available.  Then the meeting starts at 7:00 PM.

May 2025
Toys of the
Month

Our Toys of the Month for May are the Woodie Car and a Mancala Game. The Woodie Car will require work at a band saw to shape the fenders and the top portion.  The Mancala Game requires drilling a lot of large holes, but is then easily assembled.

Templates and kits will be available for members to pick up at our May monthly meeting.  See Vince Failla as you enter the Carpenters Union 301 Hall. Or contact Vince for more information at 317-408-7511.

As usual, make 13, keep one for you our a grandchild, and return the other 12 at a future monthly meeting.

Toys of the
Month

Our Toys of the Month for April are two different Unicorn designs; first is a Rolling Unicorn, mounted on wheels, and a Unicorn Phone Holder.  Both designs allow you to custom paint your Unicorn, or leave it plan to allow kids to do it themselves.

Templates and kits will be available for members to pick up at our April monthly meeting.  See Vince Failla as you enter the Carpenters Union 301 Hall. Or contact Vince for more information at 317-408-7511.

Our Toys of the Month for February are The Garbage Truck and the Coin Hole Game.  The Garbage Truck is a new arrival and serves as one of our popular truck options for little hands.  The Coin Hole Game is a table-top version of the familiar Corn Hole game, but for older kids (due to small parts).

As usual, templates and kits will be available for members to pick up at our February monthly meeting.
